Instrumentation and final control elements are a critical factor in a best in class automation and control system. A modernization or improvement project creates an opportunity to improve these areas to achieve optimal plant performance. Direct Automation provides instrumentation services in our project scope. We can evaluate existing instrumentation and recommend areas where improvement is warranted. Specification, procurement, installation and commissioning services are available from Direct Automation to complete your project with a single source responsibility.
Sulfur dioxide is used as a bleaching agent in processing plants and is produced on-site by burning solid sulfur. Direct Automation’s client needed to improve the sulfur burning equipment at their facility to improve the safety and reliability of igniting and operating this equipment. Our team designed a new ignition system including safety interlocks to ignite only when proper conditions were met and to shut down in the event of dangerous process excursions. We specified and procured all the instrumentation including igniters, temperature, dew point, combustion air and cooling water flow, pressure measurement and pressure relief devices. Controls and HMI were designed using customer specified equipment. Direct Automation supervised installation, provided commissioning services, and delivered operator training as part of the project.
